Install Sump Pump

Sump pumps are a basic necessity if you have a basement in your home. Regardless of the quality of the foundation of your house, at some point the pressure of the ground water is going to cause the water to gush in, flooding your basement. Therefore, it is essential that you install sump pump in your basement so that any excess water in the ground can be pumped out.

To install sump pump you will first need to locate the lowest point in your basement that is also close to an electric outlet. Another crucial thing about the location is the position of other pipes such as water and sewage. Pipe layouts should be checked before going ahead with the digging. This ensures that you have the least amount of work to do when digging up the sump pit and allows for easy electrical assembly. Before you dig your sump pit, however, you are going to need to purchase the sump pump. You will need the sump pump liner to get the right measurement of the sump pit before you can install sump pump.

Once you have taken the measurements of the sump pit, you will need to break the concrete on the surface and then dig to the depth of the sump pump liner. After digging, the sump pump liner can then be placed into the pit and then sealed in with concrete. It is important to lay the concrete in level with the rest of the floor so that your install sump pump job looks neat.

The next step to install sump pump will depend on the type of sump pump you have purchased. A sump pump that is submersed underwater, such as the diaphragm, will be harder to install than a pedestal model, such as a tether float or vertical float. While the pedestal models can simply be fixed just outside the sump pit, the diaphragm model will have to be carefully fitted at the bottom of the sump pit. Since the diaphragm model is placed under water, it is much quieter than the pedestal models, yet these models tend to be much more expensive and are used mostly for heavy duty purposes.

The next crucial step to install sump pump is the piping. The water needs to be disposed of so that it does not return back to your foundation. The ideal way to get rid of it is to send the water together with rain water. The discharge pipe from the sump pit needs to be leveled properly so that water does not flow back into the ground. In addition, the pipe needs to be sealed well so that it does not leak and ruin your install sump pump job.
